About me

My name is Marie-Gil and I’m a young professional in her twenties who travels the world, always looking for new experiences.
With a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University (BCom ’16) and a Certificate in Hospitality Management from Cornell University, I built my career in hospitality over the past 10 years, including 7 years in marketing.
At 18 years old and 2 days, I embarked on my first trip alone to Italy, to reconnect with my ancestral roots. I never thought that this experience would awaken in me such a strong thirst for adventure and discovery of other places and of myself.
In 2016, I met my life partner during a college competition in Montreal and, four years later, I moved to Amsterdam to give our relationship a chance. In August 2023, we decided to say yes to diplomatic life and left for our first posting abroad, to Benin.
I created this blog to share some reflections on my living abroad experiences and the challenges that come with them, but also on more general life challenges. I hope to make you travel through my blog posts and open some discussions on topics that are sometimes less talked about in this exciting expat life.
Happy reading!
Marie-Gil
